Internet Safety

There are a number of initiatives
that are designed to improve child safety on the
Internet.
These aim to inform children,
young people and their parents and carers of the hidden dangers of
chatrooms and educate them how to surf the net in
safety.
A special booklet offering
parents advice and an A-Z of the Internet can be obtained
from:

web-site.
There is a simple acronym of
safety tips to help parents keep their children safe online,
"THINK SMART."
- Talk to your children about what they do
online
- Help your child understand the possible
dangers and how to keep safe
- Internet use is part of our new world.
Used safely it's a force for good
- Negative experiences should be shared
- Keep safety tips handy and discuss them with
your child
- Smart kids keep their details secret – don't
give out your personal details
- Make a 'Favourites' folder with your child of
agreed sites to visit
- Ask your ISP about the safety features it
offers
- Remember there is lots of advice you can give
your child without being an expert
- Think smart and be safe
Fife Constabulary believes that
we all need to ensure that taking sensible precautions to protect
ourselves and our children online should become as commonplace as
it is to lock our doors or not to talk to strangers in the offline
world. Parents and carers have a crucial role to play,
regardless of their Internet experience or expertise.
