Youth Issues Team
The Force Youth Issues Co-ordinator is based within
Headquarters, with overall managerial responsibility for the Youth
Issues Team. The key aim of the Youth Issues Team is to
divert young offenders and vulnerable children and young people to
appropriate interventions through partner agencies to provide an
immediate and proportionate response to offending behaviours and
address the risk posed by/to to those identified within a
concern report.
Through the development of joint working, the primary aims of
the Team are:
- To enable more timely and appropriate interventions for young
offenders
- To reduce re-offending rates and the number of persistent young
offenders
- To reduce the amount of Police time and resources spent in
compiling Standard Police Reports (SPR's) for minor
crimes/offences
- To reduce the number of inappropriate referrals to Children's
Reporter
- To enhance partnership working through more effective
communication and information sharing
- To respond to concerns raised in relation to vulnerable
children and young people.
This model involves a unique multi-agency partnership approach
focused on ensuring that juvenile offenders and vulnerable children
and young people are responded to in an efficient, effective and
proportionate manner.
The Youth Issues Co-ordinator also has strategic responsibility
for Youth Strategy, Early Years, Getting It Right For Every Child,
Corporate Parenting (looked after children) and Children's
Rights.
