Cowdenbeath police continue their focus on speeding

Cowdenbeath Police Officers are continuing their focus on speeding motorists throughout the area.

In addition to the ongoing  deployments by the Fife Safety Camera Partnership, local officers have deployed hand held speed detection equipment on  42 occasions during July of this year.

Cowdenbeath Area Chief  Inspector, Ken Stickings said: "Local Officers are committed to improving road safety in our area. During the Community Engagement Meetings held at the start of  July, the communities of Hill of Beath, Kingseat, Crossgates, Cowdenbeath, Kelty, Cardenden and Benarty identified speeding as a priority that they wish tackled. Since then,  local officers have been targeting these areas, as well as the other areas within the Cowdenbeath Policing area, with hand held speed detection equipment being deployed as often as possible. This will continue.

"During this period, eight  fixed penalty tickets (£60 fine and three penalty points on their driving licence) have been issued and 15 drivers have been warned."

Inspector Stickings added:”I would like to stress that our main priority is our commitment to road safety, as outlined in the Force's Policing Plan, and I would urge all motorists to obey the speed limit for their own safety and the safety of their passengers and pedestrians . It’s the school holidays and there's more children than usual out playing".

Fife Safety Camera Partnership Manager, Andy Jones added: "We will continue to support our Community Policing colleagues by ensuring we help to address community concerns raised via the Community Engagement Model by acting on local intelligence. We will continue our deployments within this area to address concerns and encourage appropriate driver behaviour."
